Don Luis Rabat, Sr. Memorial School commenced in 1950’s as a primary school. It is named after Don Luis Rabat, Sr. who donated a hectare of land for the school. During its first years there were only two teachers, Mrs. Leonida A. Cadena and Mr. Aquilino Plaza, and a few pupils. To accommodate the growing population of the school, the donor offered Mrs. Leonida A. Cadena, the teacher-in charge, to transfer the school to a bigger site. With the concurrence of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), Mrs. Cadena accepted the offer. The school was transferred to its present 20,000 square meter site located along the provincial road and about 7.5 kilometer away from the town proper.

Years later, the number of pupils continued to increase so with the teachers. Fortunately, Gov. Francisco G. Rabat, the governor at that time, was concern with the improvement of the school. He initiated the construction of new buildings replacing the old ones. There were also improvements introduced by Mrs. Cadena during her administration. Unfortunately, she became ill. Mrs. Juana Q. Acera took over as the OIC. After almost two years, Mr. Dioscoro Vicentino was assigned as the principal of the school. He did not stay long because of his promotion. The next administrators of DLRSMS were Mrs. Josefina L. Bravo, Mr. Rolando E. Magtuba, Mr. Jesus R. Manila, Mrs. Procesa M. Bualan, Mr. Rodolfo F. Dumadag and at present, Mr. Rustico T. Ferrando, Jr.

After almost 58 years, DLRSMS has become one of the best schools in the City of Mati in terms of academic and non-academic matters. Its pupils won in quiz bee, athletic meets and communication arts festival. The school implements no read no pass policy to produce readers. Last school year, drum and bugle corps was organized and the official publication, the Sea Breeze, came out. With the help of the community and the PTCA, the school is growing towards success.

And in the years to come, the school will continue in catering the needs of learners and the community. It will continue to produce pupils with intellectual capacity and with good moral standards.

The full-pledged principal and 19 teachers are doing their best to provide quality education to make the school competitive and productive nationwide.
